Koo Jun-yup Expresses Anger Over False Rumors Targeting Barbie Hsu and Her Family

(MHN Sports, Reporter Lee Jun) — Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu (徐熙媛, Xu Xiyuan), who recently passed away, has become the center of online controversy as false rumors about her and her family continue to spread. Her husband, Koo Jun-yup, a South Korean singer and DJ, has publicly expressed his anger over the situation.

On February 6, Koo Jun-yup took to social media to condemn those spreading fake news, stating, "Some pretend to be grieving, walking in the rain, while others fabricate lies about insurance policies and expenses to tarnish our family. It terrifies me to realize that such malicious people truly exist in this world."

He further pleaded, "Can’t you just leave our dear Hsu in peace? Please, I earnestly beg you."

Rumors Allegedly Spread by Wang Xiaofei and His Mother Zhang Lan

Koo Jun-yup’s post appeared to be a direct jab at Barbie Hsu’s ex-husband, Wang Xiaofei (汪小菲), and his mother, Zhang Lan (张兰). Wang Xiaofei and Barbie Hsu were married for 10 years before their divorce. Following their separation, Barbie Hsu reconnected with Koo Jun-yup, her former lover from two decades ago, and the two eventually married.

According to local Taiwanese media, Barbie Hsu’s manager criticized Wang Xiaofei and Zhang Lan for allegedly being the masterminds behind the spread of malicious rumors, including:

  • Koo Jun-yup taking out a 46 million yuan (approximately $6.4 million) life insurance policy on Barbie Hsu.

  • Barbie Hsu’s sister, Dee Hsu (徐熙娣, Xu Xidi), and Koo Jun-yup celebrating her death with singing and dancing.

  • Keeping Barbie Hsu’s ashes at home to force Wang Xiaofei to continue paying the mortgage.

  • Barbie Hsu’s mother believing that Wang Xiaofei was her daughter's "true love."

Further fueling the controversy, Zhang Lan reportedly liked a post by a Chinese influencer that claimed Wang Xiaofei had paid for a private jet to bring Barbie Hsu’s remains from Japan to Taiwan—a claim that Dee Hsu strongly refuted.

Barbie Hsu’s Sister, Dee Hsu, Fires Back

Dee Hsu denied the rumors, stating, "Our family covered all funeral expenses, including the private jet. I don’t understand where this ridiculous claim that Wang Xiaofei arranged the flight is coming from." She expressed frustration, asking, "Do these unbearable lies have to keep spreading?"

Wang Xiaofei’s Alleged Public Grieving

Following Barbie Hsu’s passing, Wang Xiaofei was seen walking in the rain for 30 minutes, visibly emotional. However, some local media and netizens accused him of staging his grief for publicity.

This isn’t the first time Wang Xiaofei has been at the center of controversy. After their divorce, he was accused of violating privacy laws by leaking Barbie Hsu’s personal information in their divorce settlement document, which led to legal proceedings. He also claimed in court that Barbie Hsu had been unfaithful during their marriage, a statement she denied on social media, responding, "You were the unfaithful one, not me."

Koo Jun-yup Declares He Will Not Inherit Barbie Hsu’s Fortune

Amid the controversy, Koo Jun-yup announced on social media that he would forgo Barbie Hsu’s estimated 120 billion won (approximately $90 million) inheritance.

He stated, "I believe my final duty is to protect the family that Hsu loved the most. I sincerely thank everyone who has shown love and condolences for her."

Public Reaction

The ongoing feud between Koo Jun-yup, Wang Xiaofei, and their respective families continues to stir public debate, with many criticizing the spread of false information and the exploitation of Barbie Hsu’s passing. As tensions escalate, fans and supporters have called for respect and privacy for Barbie Hsu’s grieving family.
